New Face of Microsoft – Satya Nadella As 3rd CEO!

New face of Microsoft!
Indians are always proved to be great leaders and this is the challenging time for Satya Nadella to prove it again. 4th February 2014 was the day of pride for India when Satya Nadella was appointed as 3rd CEO of world’s 4th largest company – Microsoft. Basically Indian and born in Hyderabad, Satya Nadella is now procuring the post of CEO in the same company where he has been steadfast and diligent employee for past 22yrs, one of the top MNC - Microsoft. The time when Microsoft is seeing the worst phase of its lifespan, it’s a challenging time for Satya Nadella to bring-up the standard of Microsoft back to what it was holding before Apple, Google and Windows came in market. From the very beginning, new CEO Satya Nadella is showing that he will manoeuvre differently from former CEO‘s Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates.

Satya Nadella, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer
Born in 1969 in a telgu family, the hyderabadi boy of 42 years believes that his passion toward cricket in his childhood days taught him the lessons of teamwork and leadership. Nadella, an Electrical Engineer with bachelor’s degrees from Manipal Institute of Technology (1988) and master in Computer Science discipline from University of Wisconsin, earned his MBA degree by taking weekend classes at University of Chicago Booth School Business after he had joined at Microsoft. Nadella started his professional career at Sun Microsystems, before joining Microsoft in 1992, where he functioned as a Program Manager in the Windows Developer Relations group. Nadella swiftly rose up the ranks, from Senior Vice President of Research & Development for the Online Services division, to the Vice President of the Microsoft Business Solutions group (MBS), and outstandingly now the President of a company assets of $19 billion – Microsoft. Presently, Nadella is Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise group which is responsible for building and running the company's computing platforms, developer tools and cloud services, according to Microsoft’s team. This newly appointed CEO played a major role in Microsoft’s transition to cloud computing called Azure. Apart from this, he had worked on wide range of jobs at Microsoft which includes Bing, Office 365, Skype and MSN.

Talking about his personal life then Nadella is the son of an IAS officer, who was secretary to former PM P.V.Narasimha Rao and also member of Planning Commission under PM Manmohan Singh during the period of 2004-2009. In 1992, the time when he joined Microsoft, Nadella was married to Anupama, Daughter of his father’s IAS colleague and his high school sweetheart and is now father of 1 son and 2 daughters.

“I always wanted to build things” says Satya Nadella “and that is the reason I wanted to join computer engineering, unfortunately this field wasn’t available at Manipal University and so I planned to switch to Electrical engineering so as a great way for me to discover the way towards my passion”

“Our industry does not respect tradition - it only respects innovation” he says. Nadella's annual salary has been raised to $1.2million which is 70% greater compare to the annual base salary paid to Steve Ballmer. Also Microsoft says that the new CEO may receive a cash award of 300% of his salary earned as CEO during the remainder of fiscal year 2014 and all of fiscal year 2015 and is also eligible for a stock award of $13.2 million for the company's 2015 fiscal year. The Microsoft board will take a final call on the bonus and it also depends on Nadella's and the company's performance. In past three years Nadella helped in growing Microsoft $20 billion as annual revenue — about a quarter of Microsoft's total revenue in the most recent fiscal year.

Satya sounds to be very promising for the growth of its company and to get back the consumer’s mindshare that it has lost due to Apple and Google. Let’s hope he goes as he is saying and proves to be best in fixing the problems that Microsoft is facing and may Microsoft attain the heights of success that it has never imagined!
